Enquire about this work

Medusa the Gorgon reveals the tragic truth behind a legend we have known since childhood. In Greek myth she is the monster with snakes for hair whose gaze turns people to stone. Yet behind the terrifying story lies Medusa’s own tragedy: she was not born a monster. She became one after becoming a victim.

If Medusa was once called a monster, today her story mirrors the real tragedies of women who have suffered from jealousy, cruelty or someone else’s desires.

The palette is no accident: muted tones and strong contrasts carry the drama and depth of the story. The red, enclosed circle in the composition stands for protection, for the containment of inner energy and for the cycle of life and death, and it draws the eye to the central theme. The portrait is deliberately left loose so that the viewer completes the image with their own feelings. The dynamic lines heighten the tension and pull us deeper into the narrative. How many modern Medusas are still suffering today?
